Undergraduate Business Students
Undergraduate Business Honors Theses
The Kenan-Flagler Honors Thesis Program challenges motivated students to move beyond traditional coursework and apply critical thinking skills to an academic business thesis. Juniors with a 3.5 GPA have the opportunity to develop an intensive research project, which extends far beyond the limits of the material in a single course during a single semester. Students who complete this project will spend almost one full year, under the guidance of a Kenan-Flagler faculty member, researching, writing, and revising an original thesis on a business topic.
The Business Communication Center is the archive for Kenan-Flagler Honors theses. You can browse through hard copies of these theses in the Business Communication Center during our regular Center hours. You'll find it best to make an appointment in the Center to see the theses. If you´d like to check out a thesis, talk to a consultant in the Center.
What we can help you with:
- Oral presentation skills and PowerPoint slide designs
- Writing, with an aim to improve clarity and grammar (we, unfortunatley, don't have expertise in research writing)
Other resources available to PhD students:
UNC Writing Center handouts
The Center for Teaching and Learning This is open to all faculty and PhD students. Their website also has terrific resources regarding course development, grading, etc.
RefWorks Use this resource to organize your research and to format bibliographies and in-text citations. Keeping a database of your research in Refworks is especially helpful if you might revisit some of your sources for later projects.
Office of International Student and Scholor Services In addition to helping with visa-type issues, OISSS provides a wealth of ESL and American culture resources.
Evening, Weekend, One MBA, and MBA@UNC Students
Because evening, weekend, One MBA, and MBA@UNC students have may not be on campus regularly, we do offer virtual appointments for you. You'll sign up for an appointment through our regular scheduling system (http://unc.mywconline.com). Please be sure to indicate on the reservation form that you would like to meet with us virtually and your preferred method of communication (telephone, Adobe Connect, Skype, etc.). Be sure to include a number where we can reach you in the Comments section of the reservation form. You can either attach your document to the reservation form or email it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please attach or email your document at least 30 minutes prior to the session. Appointments are given priority, (and traffic can be especially heavy at the time assignments are due), so please plan ahead in scheduling your appointment. Please remember that we are not a proofreading service.
The Center has been a popular Kenan-Flagler resource for international students. We've helped students learn more about US business language, understand US conventions for public speaking and interviewing, and improve writing and speaking in English. We occasionally organize groups to help students practice conversational English. For more information on conversation groups and books useful to English as a Second Language (ESL) learners, contact Director Courtney Wright.
We hope you'll peruse this site's English as a Second Language online links as well as read the following newletters we produced with international students in mind:
Another University resource is the UNC Writing Center. In addition to face-to-face tutoring, the UNC Writing Center offers an online-tutor and has an English as a Second Language (ESL) professional on staff.
